Man Fires Gun, Points It At Victim During Fight In Beekman: Police

A 58-year-old man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly firing a gun, pointing it at a victim, and assaulting them during a violent dispute inside a Dutchess County home, authorities said.

The incident happened at a residence on Brothers Road in Beekman, where Sheriff's deputies responded at around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 12, after receiving reports of a dispute in which one person was reportedly armed with a pistol, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office announced on Thursday, March 13.

Upon arrival, deputies quickly found and took 58-year-old Joseph M. Reynolds of Beekman into custody and secured the gun, the Sheriff's Office said.

According to authorities, Reynolds is accused of firing two rounds from the pistol, both of which struck a window, before pointing the firearm at the victim and physically assaulting them.

The victim was ultimately able to escape the residence and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Reynolds has been charged with:

  • Second-degree assault;
  • Second-degree menacing; 
  • Criminal use of a firearm;
  • Third-degree criminal mischief;
  • Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Following his arrest, Reynolds was arraigned in Beekman Town Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center on $100,000 cash bail or $250,000 bond.
